Jenny playing violin at the October 2023 meeting

Note from Queen Jenny in 2023

Hej! My name is Jenny Ryu, the queen of House of Sweden and a current sophomore at Torrey Pines High School. I love to read, write, walk, and play the violin. I am originally from Korea, but have a connection with Sweden through refuge.

I have lived in Sweden for two years during the pandemic; and this experience became a great meaning for me as it changed my life all around and formed my personality into that I have today. I especially loved the nature and peaceful atmosphere of Sweden, as well as the charming treats and cultures such as godis, fika, and Jul.

My yearning to learn more about Swedish culture and language through meeting Swedes & people of Swedish background brought me into the House of Sweden and its gorgeous cottage. Here, I have been given the honorable opportunity of becoming the Queen representing HoS! I am looking forward to further meet people of diverse cultural backgrounds to understand and appreciate them better.

Please feel free to reach me out through email any time. Tack och trevligt att träffas!

Each year, the member Houses of the HPR elect Queens and Princesses to reign from October 1st to September 30 the following year.  Members must be between the ages of 10-21 years and must be members of their Houses either as individuals or through family membership.  The age of a junior Princess is 10-13 years, a Princess is 13 to 16 years old, and a Queen can be from 16 to 21 years old or even older. They are encouraged to remain active in their Houses throughout the year and are required to participate in all Queen’s activities.

We are allowed to have one Queen, age 16-18 years old, several Princesses , age 13-16 years old and Junior Princesses, 10-13 years old. ( Many houses have several Princesses)

Our new queen is Jenny Ryu.

The House of Sweden is always looking for young women to represent us in the Queens organization.

Here is a letter from our past Queen of the House of Sweden

LETTER FROM JOANNA

Oh how I will miss the Hpr queens & House of Sweden! Being part of this amazing community has been a journey filled with joy, growth, and meaningful connections. Aside from being tons of fun, there are many opportunities for community service hours toward college! To name a few: father joes kitchen, painting community rocks, diaper drive, freerice trivia game, food drive & making homeless care packages. This community has also provided an inspiring opportunity to learn about other cultures and share my own. The diversity within the community has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for different traditions, languages, and customs. Through this cultural exchange, I've broadened my horizons, developed a more open-minded perspective, and fostered a sense of global unity. It's truly heartwarming to see how we come together to celebrate our differences while building bridges of understanding and respect. This aspect of the community has added even more depth and purpose to my involvement, making it a truly unforgettable and impactful journey.

Don't miss the opportunity to be apart of this impactful group!!!

- Joanna Donat, former Queen for the House of Sweden.
