Saturday and Sunday Serving
The city requires us to be open every Saturday and Sunday. People pouring coffee or serving cake will need to have a food handler's certificate. Members of the House of Sweden are expected to serve at least 2 days a year. We are required to be open from either 12 noon until 5PM or 11AM until 4PM. The cottage must be open for 5 hours. You don't need to serve food or drink on Saturdays, but you should serve coffee, snacks, tea, and lemonade on Sundays. The dumpsters behind the Balboa Park club should be unlocked between 4 and 5 PM on weekends. You can take the trash to the dumpsters after serving.
If you need help signing up, please phone Pat Coffey on her home phone.
We're using Signup.com (the leading online Sign-up and reminder tool) to organize our hosting days. Please click on the link below to sign up for serving on Saturday or Sunday. Signup. com does not share your email address with anyone. You can look at the calendar at the bottom of this page to see which days need to be filled.

You can learn how to serve on Saturday and Sunday by signing up to observe. That is the easiest way to learn how to fulfill your commitment to the House of Sweden.
Food Handlers Certificate
If you prepare food or serve it to the public on Saturday or Sunday or at one of our major events, you will need a food handler's certificate for San Diego County. The House of Pacific Relations has these classes periodically before major events. You can also take the course online at one of the schools. You can link to a course here. Here is the link to the San Diego County food handlers site.

The House of Sweden will reimburse you for your expense. Just email your receipt to our treasurer Gary Litwak.
A copy of your certificate must be filed in the House of Sweden. There is a folder in the top file drawer under the craft cabinet for your certificate.
If you take a picture of your certificate using your smart phone, you will always have it with you.
